How it Works

XUMIDOR™ Humidity Control Systems operate on the principle of water electrolysis. A proton exchange membrane (PEM) is sandwiched by two electrodes. A voltage is applied to the electrodes which causes water to react to form oxygen and protons (hydrogen ions). The protons travel through the PEM, where they react with oxygen on the other side of the membrane to reform water.

Easy Integration

XUMIDOR™ Humidity Control Systems have a small footprint and mounting assembly, allowing them to be easily integrated onto the side of an enclosure.

No Maintenance

Typical humidification technologies require the water source to be refilled, and dehumidification technologies require either a drain line or the collection and subsequent removal of the collected water. Electrolysis based methods of humidity control work entirely on moving the moisture available in the air, requiring no maintenance.

Product Selection


To adequately size the correct system for your application it is important to understand the following parameters:

  • Ambient temperature and humidity
  • Target humidity
  • Enclosure volume
  • Draw down time (time to reach target humidity)
  • Frequency of opening the enclosure
  • Leak rate/ Air exchange rate
    • Note: this may be an unknown in your system and we can work with your team to determine this value

Dehumidification Curves


A lower target humidity, larger volume, quicker draw down time, and greater leak rate will all lead to a larger humidity control system.

When our engineers analyze your requirements, they will be looking at the absolute humidity (AH) of the system and not the relative humidity (RH). RH is expressed as a percentage of the amount of water vapor present in air to fully saturate the air and is highly dependent on temperature. The vapor pressure of water increases as temperature increases, allowing for a greater amount of water vapor to be present in air before saturation, i.e. 40% RH at 25°C is a greater AH than 40% RH at 20°C. AH is expressed as grams of water per volume air and allows for easier analysis of humidification or dehumidification requirements.

Products


We offer systems that carry out one-way humidity control and systems that carry out two-way humidity control. XMC-xx1 is used for specifying one-way systems, and XMC-xx2 is used for specifying two-way systems.
